2016 and Trends for Interior Design

Published By: Alicia Probst  -  Friday, February 5, 2016

InteriorDesignIn the world of home décor, a new year brings with it new, hot trends to follow. This year is the same, but it brought with it some surprises that people didn't see coming. Of course, no one will love every trend that's out there, but it's always fun to find a new style or taste that you just love and want to fill your house with. The following are some of the top trends taking over Pinterest this year:

Grey Is In!

Grey on everything, and a pop of color with pictures, throw pillows, and floral arrangements is one of the biggest trends of the season. Grey couches and walls are all extremely popular in some of the most beautiful modern homes, and using color around this dull tone is what really makes the color stun. Don't be afraid to go too crazy—with grey, nothing is off limits! You can choose from every single color in the rainbow when choosing accompanying pieces; in fact, one of the most attractive companions for a dark grey setting is bright sunshine yellow.

There's nothing better for a DIYer than taking something you're done with and making it into something you can use again. Upcycling is the best way to save money, and it's also a great benefit for the environment. There isn't anything that is off limits when it comes to repurposing; a cement block, and old tire, a broken pallet box are all things that could work. The internet is full of tutorials and tips on how to turn a basic item into a gorgeous masterpiece—use your imagination and go crazy!

Take It to the Wall

Finding a place for everything can be quite the hassle for those with small kitchens and limited storage space. The fortunate thing is that displaying your pots, pans, and cookware accessories on the wall is perfect this year. All that is needed is a pot rack or pegboard with hooks and a clear space on the wall where your new accent pieces can be placed.

Pro Tip: Your display can't achieve the beautifying look that you want if your dishes aren't clean and free of rust.

Wallpaper Everywhere

Coming as a big surprise to everyone, wallpaper is making a comeback! This was a big trend from the 1970s to 1990s but it has died out a bit since then - however, 2016 seems to be the year of the comeback.

It isn't necessary to go crazy with wild patterns or dizzying flower motifs, the best course of action is sometimes simple. Some wallpaper might be just what is needed to give a room that spark of color and pizzazz that has been missing.

So, which trend for 2016 is your favorite? What do you think is going to be the most popular décor choice for the year?
